Nutrition and Physical Activity

Nutrition and Physical Activity

WHO IT’S FOR:

  • Families with young children (birth to age 5)

WHY IT MATTERS:

Good nutrition is vital to healthy development in young children, and poor nutrition in the early years can lead to childhood obesity and learning problems later on. Healthy eating and being physically active helps families achieve better health.

WHAT IT IS:

Families participate in a series of fun classes to learn more about nutrition and wellness and be motivated to eat healthy and be physically active. Each program is different, but all are free to attend. Some include:

  • Cooking classes with simple, healthy cultural recipes you can prepare at home
  • Gardening program where kids plant vegetables that they eventually harvest for meals
  • Information and encouragement to help you and your family achieve and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle.

Nutrition & physical activity programs are funded in some FTF regions, and similar programs are available in many others through family activities and family resource centers. Contact these programs in your area to learn more.
