Community Based Language and Literacy

WHO IT’S FOR:

  • Parents and caregivers of young children (birth to age 5)
  • Grandparents
  • Foster and adoptive parents

WHY IT MATTERS:

Being aware of the importance of early language and literacy development, and having opportunities to participate in early language and literacy workshops help parents set their children up for success.

WHAT IT IS:

Community Based Language and Literacy gives parents and families of young children the opportunity to participate in language and literacy workshops at community locations, such as  libraries, schools or housing complexes. The workshops may be one-time, one-day events or may be ongoing, but they all include opportunities for parents to learn about early language and literacy in a group setting.

Each workshop provides parents with knowledge and resources to support their child’s early language and literacy development at home. Workshops may be for parents only, or may be specifically designed for parents to attend with their children. If you or someone you know is interested in participating in a Community Based Language and Literacy workshop, use the Find Programs tool below to find a location near you.
